m ON JANUARY PRICES. Australian Press Association. Received Friday 7 p.m. LONDON, March 21. The wool sales have closed. The tone of the opening day was upheld. Values showed a little change throughout. In Merinos, the chief buying was for the Homo trade am} France, but Germany was hesitant and bought only sparingly. Greasy wool closed generally about five per cent below January prices. Scoureds averaged from par to five per cent below, with a tendency in sellers’ favour. During last week, greasy crossbreds met chief competition from Yorkshire. Despite the large offering, opening rates were well maintained. Scoureds and slipes generally suffered five per cent, decline, greasy lambs ’ wool about five per cent, decline. Scoureds were more difficult to sell and there were considerable Withdrawals of them. The catalogue totalled 98,945 bales, including 20,000 bales from Punta Arenes. It is estimated 43,000 were sold to the Continent, 4000 to America and 25,000 to the Home trade. About 27,000 bales were held.
