FIVE BODIES IN ONE FAMILY ARE EXHUMED BY POLICE AT MIDNIGHT

Reason Unexplained MYSTERIOUS ACTION BY SCOTLAND YARD ONE DIED IN 1904. Australian Press Association. Received Friday 7 p.m. LONDON, March 22. Extraordinary scenes wore witnessed at dead of night at Croydon, when five bodies were exhumed at the instance of the police. They were Mrs Violet Sidney, aged 69, the widow of. a barrister, her daughter Vera, aged 40, who died on February 19, her brother-in-law, Edmund Duff, aged 59, ex-High Commissioner of Nigeria, who died in April of last year and Mr Duff’s two daughters, Suzanne, aged two years, who died in in 1904 and Margaret, aged seven, who died in 1919. The exhumations took place simultaneously, so many together being probably unprecedented. The investigations began after the sudden death of Mrs Sidney, when the Coroner adjourned the inquest without any explanation. Scotland Yard authorities have since pursued inquiries with the greatest secrecy. The disinterment took place at the cemetery after midnight behind canvas screens.
