HOKOWHITU SCHOOL QUEEN IS CROWNED
CEREMONY AT OPERA HOUSE. Hokowhitu’s carnival queen was crowned at the Opera house last evening with due pomp and ceremony, the royal procession proceeding to the stage with the Master of CeremoniesMr. Houston, leading tho way. Following him came her Majesty the Queen of Hokowhitu (Miss Ramona Mcnendez) escorted by the Mayor, Mr. A. J. Graham, an'd Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P. Train bearers, maids of honour (other queen candidates), the chairman of tho school committee (Mr. J. T. J. Hcatley), secretary (Mr. E. Amos), and chairmen of each queen committee completed the procession. Mr. Nash and Mr. Graham addrossed the queen and her subjects, following which her Majesty conferred Knighthoods on the following: Messrs Nash, Graham, Heatlcy, Amos, Turner, Gutton, Hepburn, Ross and Houston. Mr. Nash presented each maid of honour with a wristlet watch and boxes of chocolates on behalf of the committee. The first part of the evening was devoted to a most delightful programme much enjoyed by the large audience, items being as follow: — Overture, junior orchestra; song, Mr. A. Stewart; violin solo, Mr. Findlay; dance (black and white ballet), pupils of Miss Rush; contralto solo, Mrs. Findlav; operatic dance, Miss Juno Scott (pupil of Mrs. 0. H. Williams); some humour. Mr. Smales; solo (soprano), Mrs. AlcLnchlan; march, junior orchestra; recitation, Miss .A. Oates; solo (soprano), Miss M. Smith; recitation, Mr. G. W. G. Davidson: Highland dancing, pupils of Miss McKenzie Forbes; character dance, Miss Vera Oliver, official pianist, Mr. Briasco; stage manager, Mr. G. Houston.
