FEILDING FIRE BOARD

ANNUAL MEETING. SMALL FIRE LOSS. The annual mooting of the Feilding Firo Board was held' at the Borough Council Chambers yesterday. Mr. E. 11. Fisher was re-elected chairman,^ and there were also present: Messrs. A\. A. Parton, A. Simpson, V. E. Smith and A. H. Sutton. Fire Inspector’s Report. Chief Fire Brigade Inspector, Capt. Hugo, reported that he had inspected the brigade in February and found the discipline and drill good, as well as the equipment. He again recommended the lire-bell being connected direct by wire to the exchange and ho also remarked upon the. absence of a siren on the small motor engine and the condition of some of the hydrant indicators about the town. The Board considered that the fi.xisting arrangements in connection with the lire alarm service quito satisfactory, but it resolved to obtain a siren for the motor and to draw the Borough Council’s attention to the hydrant indicators. The Board decided to congratulate the brigade upon the satisfactory nature of Capt. Hugo’s report. “It is very nice to have such a satisfactory report,” said Mr. Parton. Superintendent’s Report. The following annual report was submitted by the superintendent, Mr. O. C. Sporle:—The brigade received eleven calls during the year. The estimated value of property on which fires had occurred was: Buildings, £14,150; conteits, £7150; total, £21,300; insurance on buildings, £10,3(30; insurance on eonlouts, £5150; total, £15,510; lire loss by insurance, £2115 10s; estimated loss on uninsured property, £150; total lire loss for the year, £2295 10s. The plant at the station was in good order. • There had been 35 musters during the year and the attendance and work .had been good. The strength of the brigade was 2 officers, 19 men. There were 20 men entitled to boot allowance and three to station allowance. The chairman remarked that the loss was very small but not as good as the two previous years. He agreed with other members that Feilding could not expect to maintain such an excellent position as that of two years ago, every year. The report was adopted. Executive Committee. The old executive committee,’Messrs. Fisher, Smith and Sutton, was re-elect-ed. The estimates for the ensuing year, totalling £7S2 were adopted and accounts totalling £lB9 Is 8d -were passed for payment.
