CENTRAL SCHOOL HAS GALA DAY
Mr. E.. Bnry, headmaster of tho Cens tral school, wishes to thank the parents and children for the magnificent Tec spouse to the call for funds towards o the library for Central school. Both o parents and children had been working 1 hard to mako the gala day, held yesa terday, a success. 2 The rain probably kept many away, i but there was seemingly no lack of money, for it was circulated most freos ly. The sweets stall did a roaring business, as also did the happy thought 1 of a jumble sale. The school boy L pupils worked unceasingly and are a 1 great credit to their parents and teachers. Tho baby show attracted r many mothers with their darlings and they all should feel justly proud of them too. There is no harder task than that of being a judge at a baby show, for as everyone knows New Zea--1 land is noted for its beautiful children. Those in charge of the various stalls ! were: — Produce: Mcsdames Piercy and Jones. Sweets: Mesdames Matthews, Cater, and the Misses Palonski, Matthews and Oliver. Jumble: Mrs. Gapper, and schoolboy pupils. Afternoon tea: Mrs.' Gupwell, and helpers. Cake stall: Mrs. Mills. Darts: Mr. J. H. Aldersley. Ice e.roam and soft drinks: Mrs. M. Hands. Fish pond: Messrs G. Adams and C. Parlane. Croquet: Mesdames W. R. Mayes and E. R. Tucker. • Tho winners of the Daby show, prizes for which were donated by Mr. Bary, were: Six months, Mrs. Snclling 1, Mrs. Sollitt 2; 12 months, Mrs. J. H. Palmer 1, Mrs. Bryant 2. The judges were Mrs. Curry and Miss Madden. Best sponge: Mrs. Le Chcminant 1. Mrs. Peters 2. Scones: Mrs. Peters 1. Mrs. Lg Cheminant 2. The judgo was Mrs. L. T. Brown.
