PLEA FOR NOBILE
HIS RESCUER’S STORY. WHY HE WAS SAVED FIRST. SUPERIOR ORDERS. { United Press Association —By Electrie Telegraph—Copyright. NEW YORK, March 19. Captain Lundborg, tho Swedish aviator who rescued General Nobile from the Italia wreck, has arrived. Ho said: "General Nobile should not bo blamed for being the first to be rescued. If anyone should be, I should bo tho one. I insisted that he be saved. Captain Tornberg, Chief of the Swedish expeditoion and an officer in the Royal Swedish Air Force, ordered mo to bring back General Nobile, because he felt that the general would lend experience and knowledge of the conditions to help us to rescue other missing members of the dirigible Italia’s crew.” Both before the inquiry and in the report of tho Italian Commission General Nobile was blamed for being the first to be rescued of the survivors of the Italia marooned on the ice. Tho Commission’s report, ■which has been submitted to Signor Mussolini, stated that the loss of the Italia was due to faulty handling by General Nobile, tho composition of the crew, and the uso made of it. The conduct of Mariano and Zappi was described as praiseworthy, and Nobile’s acceptance o* priority of rescue as unjustiable and explicable only by his physical and moral depression and the Swedish airman, Lundborg's, urgent invitation.
