“COUNTLESS THOUSANDS MOURN”
CR. MILVERTON - OBJECTS TO GRANTING SICK PAY. Objection was taken by Cr. W. Milverton at last night’s meeting of the Palmerston North Borough council to the granting of sick pay to employees. The Mayor asked him to be reasonable. Cr Milverton: I am reasonable. The Mayor: You must be humane. Cr Milverton: A man went off to a sister's funeral. Should we pay him? We should treat every case on its merits. The Mayor and councillors: We do. The Mayor: You want to penalise labour every time? Cr. Milverton: I don't. I am prepared to judge every case on its merits but this is going beyond all reason.
