CONSTABLES’ JOY JAUNT HAS SEQUEL IN COURT

CONVERSION CHARGE TAILS. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Charges of unlawfully converting a motor-car against Constables James Alexander Wilson and Stanton James Anderson were heard in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. Wilson was also charged with driving without a license. The cars were lent to the police for a week-end to carry a polico cricket team to Coalgato. On the day before the match, the two' accused took one of the cars to New Brighton and on their return, an accidon t occurred. They reported the accident and the charges followed. In evidence, it was stated by a representative of the firm from -which the cars were hired and by tho defendants that permission was given them to take the car out for a run to New Brighton. This meant that the major charge failed. Wilson pleaded guilty to having no license, although it was stated he had been a taxi-driver before entering the force. Wilson was finod five shillings with costs.
