ROTARY CONFERENCE

r.?T. CLUB’S DELEGATE RELATES IMPRESSIONS,

Rotarian R. T. Jaggard, who was the Palmerston North Rotary club’s delegate to the recent Rotary confercnco in Christchurch, was the speaker at yesterday’s meeting of the Palmerston North body. In the course of a brief address Rotarian Jaggard gave his impressions of tho conference and the work which had been accomnlishe'd.

Some surprise had been expressed in Christchurch at the fact that only oue delegate from Palmerston North had attended. Indeed, the attendance at the conference had been rather disappointing, Auckland and Wellington being the two centres most heavily represented.

Ho himself had been appointed to the musical and discussions committees and had taken part in the consideration of the various remits brought before those sections. The question of ladies’ day had been discussed, and although lie had described some of the successful functions held by the Palmerston North club, the weight of opinion had been against bringing women more into the activities of the Rotary movement. Tho question of the compilation of a new song book had been discussed a number of delegates opposing the proposal to print a new book, on the ground of expense. The chairman, however, had ruled that any discussion was out of order as the decision to pTint a now book had been arrived at by a previous conference. ‘ Consideration had then been given to the matter to be contained in the new publication, it being finally decided to write to International Rotary headquarters, seeking support in obtaining permission from the owners to reprint copyright numbers. A number of internal and domestic matters had been discussed, such as tho Question of obtaining suitable speakers and the regular attendance of members at meetings. However, no decisions had been arrived at in connection with these last two matters, as conditions were found to vary so much m the different clubs. . In conclusion, Rotanan JaggaTd stated that he had received a most cordial welcome while delegates had all been most hospitably entertained by the home club. Concerts and a cabaret had been arranged in. their honour and altogether, they had had a most enjoyable stay.
