PROPOSED MATERNITY HOME FOR FEILDING

NOT A TAIL-END SUBJECT. ME. SMITH TO BRING MOTION BEFORE BOARD An unusual situation against -which Mr. V. E. Smith voiced a strong protest, occurred at the Palmerston North Hospital board meeting yesterday. At last meeting of the board, Mr. Smith gave notice pf motion that tho board, when framing the capital estimates, should consider the question of establishing a maternity home at Feilding.

Yesterday, the capital estimates were decided upon but it was not until tho list had been completed that Mr. Smith was asked to movo his motion.

"I think it is quite a wrong thing altogether,” ho said. The chairman: But tho estimates aro not adopted yet. Mr. Smith: But I can see how tho oat is jumping. I must enter my protest. You ask me to bring down a motion of this sort after you have been butchering the estimates all day. It docs not give mo a fair show. The chairman: If your proposal means an expenditure of more capital, I don’t think the board will agree to it. Mr. Smith: I am quite satisfied it would not (laughter). Mr. Smith asked leave to bring the matter before the next meeting of th., board, which was granted.
