A little mustard rubbed into the hands after peeling onions will remove the disagreeable smell. Appleß may be easily peeled by pouring boiling water over them. The skins ean then be slipped off. When making toast, slightly heat one side of the bread and then the other, leaving all browning to the last. This allows the moisture to evaporate. Wrought iron articles should be cleaned with a cloth damped with sweet oil, and polished with a dry flannel. Do not use a fork for turning them when cooking kidneys, but shake them in the pan. By this method the 1 gravy is retained.
Spring mattresses will not rust if they are given a coat of aluminium paint. Marks left by hot dishes on polished tables should be rubbed with a cut lemon dipped in linseed or sweet oil, and polished with a warmed piece of silk. Knives can be quickly cleaned if the knife-board is first warmed in front of the fire. i Iron-mould can bo removed by rubbing well with salt and lemon, folding the article lightly and leaving it for several hours before washing.
