FEILDING EWE FAIR

DALGETY’S REPORT,

Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd._ report: The -popularity of the Feilding ewe fair was again demonstrated at the fixture held on February 22, when a huge assembly of buyers came forward fiom the AAJaikato, Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, Hawera, Wanganui and Wavcrlcy districts to compete with local fanners for the 24,000 sheep yarded. There were some exceptionally good linos of 4 and 5-yr ewes ,also 2-th ewes punned and for these competition was spirited and highly satisfactory figures recorded. The sale opened tenderly but graziers soon got into their stride showing they were out with the idea of securing their complement, and while an odd group, following their usual custom, expressed their solemn opinion that sheep were too dear, as this was not put over the loud speaker, the sale proceeded merrily and quite a number foiled to fill their requirements when tho last pen offered sold right up to the day’s full values. On tho whole the sale was highly satisfactory and our passings comprised only one small pen. Principal sales are as follows: Account D. L. Younger 100 5-yr ewes 245, 400 4-yr ewes 2Ss lOd to 29s 6d, 50 4 and 0-th ewes 2Ss, 200 2-th ewes 40s 9d, 100 2-th Gives 40s. Account J. McArdle, 270 5-yr ewes 24s Gd.

LEVIN & CO., LBD.

Messrs. Levin & Co., Ltd., report:— Of the 25,000 ewes yarded for this fixture, our offering was about 5000, ail locally bred sheep and ail of which we sold under the hammer at prices well up to late rates. The ewes offered were up ,to the usual standard for this fixture and although the prices early in the sale were not quite as good as expected, the tone of the market improved as the sale went on.

The two-tooth ewes, of which there was a larger yarding than usual, met with very keen competition and we secured the highest price of the sale for a line of extra good two-tooth ewes sold on account of Mr. J. D. Hocking, of Kiwitea, for £3 5s 6d, and purchased by Mr. Job Palmer, Ashhurst.

Prices of the older ewes was about 7s to 8s ahead of last year's rates and the two-tooths 10s to 15s better.

We quote:—Good mixed 31s Id to 34s 3d; inferior mixed aged ewes, 25s 3d; straight lines of good four-year ewes, 31s 6d to 34s Sd; inferior good four-year ewes, 25s Id to 28s; good five-year ewes, 28s to 295; medium five-year ewes, 22s 6d to 265; good 4 and 5-year ewes, 29s 9d to 33s sd; medium 4 and 5-yr. ewes, '2os 6d to 29s Od; inferior 4 and 5-yr. ewes, 21s to 25s 0d; best two-tooth ewes, 48s Od to 65s 6d; and bigger lines of good twotooths, 40s to 455; medium two-tooths, 30s to 39s 6d.
