THAW ENDANGERS RHINE DWELLERS
SERIOUS FLOODS FEARED. POPULACE PACKED UP READY FQR FLIGHT. Sun Cable. Received Mondav, 2 a.ni. LONDON, Feb. 23. Serious Rhino floods are feared as the result of tho thaw. The Daily Mail’s correspondent at Strasbourg says there is great alarm among the riverbank population, who have packed their moveables in readiness for flight to higher ground, for which the signal will be the firing of guns and the sounding of the toscin. The river ice, whieh is two feet thick, is sending out ominous cracks, which can be beard a mile aYvay.
The Army of Occupation is standing by, in readiness to assist the Germany authorities, who are hurriedly erecting refuge huts.
