HOLY SEE LIKELY TO DECLARE WAR ON ROTARIANISM

Breach a Chasm

IS IT SUBSERVIENT TO MASONIC INTERESTS?

NATURAL OPPOSITION.

Sun Cable. Received Sunday, 7 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 23

A dispatch from Rome says the breach between tho Roman Catholic church and the Rotary movement has widened to a chasm.

L’Osservatore Romano attacks a length Rotarianism as being subservient to the interests of Freemasonry. This is believed to foreshadow the church’s open declaration of war. The Spanish Bishops have alroady prohibited lay Roman Catholics from belonging to Rotary Clubs. Mr. H. J. Sutton, who is himself a Roman Catholic and president of the Rotary movement, visited Rome in order to convince the Holy See that its hostility was founded on a misapprehension and thought he had done so and went to America on the day preceding L 'Osservatore’s attack. London Rotarians aro surprised at the church’s attitude and declaro the movement is unsectarian and nonpolitical. Mr Sidney Wieks. a Manchester Rotarian says tho Roman Catholic church logically opposes any movement such as Rotary, which may satisfy one’s religious nature without pinning him down to Roman Catholicism.
