At the Stadium last night, Jack Roberts (9.4) of Newcastle again knocked out the Filipino, Tornaffij Kid” Johnson, in the _ first round. Roberts’ blows were terrifically heavy.
Uzcudun Survives Elimination Fight PAYNE EIGHTS A DRAW. Received Sunday, 7 p.m. NEW YORK, Feb. 23. Jack Payne (Australia) fought a ten rounds draw with Charlie Belanger or Toronto (Canada).. . Payne floored Belanger, _ who took the count to seven in the third round. Paolino Uzcudun won a ten rounds decision from Kayo Christner &t tho Madison Square Garden, thus gaining ground in tho elimination for tho championship. Neither fighter showed particular ability. Christnei. until the end of the fight was indifferent. He then left Uzcudun groggy, staggering him with rights to the jaw in. the last round but was unable to finish the Basque, whose superiority in the earlier rounds won for him a favourable decision.
Saturday’s Stadium Scrap Received Monday, 2 a.m. SYDNEY, Feb. 23. Tommy Brooks (8.6), out-pointed Lea. Ferris (8.1) in twelve rounds.
