ANNUAL MELTING

A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING

Favoured with fine weather and the knowledge that the gathering never fails to prove enjoyable, a large crowd attended the annual sports meeting of the Waituna "West Sports Club, held on the school grounds on Saturday. Fear in and year out, this meeting is organised with extraordinary enthusiasm and the support accorded speaks vohimns for the popularity of those responsible for the preparation of the programme and the conduct of the sports programme. There, were present visitors from Fcilding and the surrounding districts and the attendance of the Fcilding Caledonian Pipe band added to the gaiety of the proceedings. The usual picnic facilities were available, and the provision of luncheon on the ground proved a convenience.

The club’s patron, Mr L. T. McLean, •joined with the other officials to keep the programme in swing. The Presi-

dent, Mr N .J. Short and Mr N. V. Shannon as director of sports, together with the joint secretaries, Messrs E. N. Mayhew and E. E. Pearce, are to be congratulated upon the success of the meeting. Mr E. Burrell judged the horse events, Mr J. Stewart the Highland dancing, to both of whom the club’s thanks are duo. Thanks are also due to Piper K. Burne, who was kind enough to play the music for the dancing. In the evening the usual dance was held and this proved in every way a fitting finale to a most successful day.
