CENTRAL SCHOOL
SPORTS MpETING TO BE HELD WEDNESDAY NEXT. A special meeting of the committee of Central school was held last evening for the purpose of considering a report from Mr. Bary regarding n school sports meeting to take the place of the annual picnic hitherto enjoyed. There wero present Mr. A. Clark (in tho chair) and Messrs H. Canton, W. Cameron, P. Hubbard, E. Tucker, B. J. Jacobs ana Mr. Barv, while an apology was received from Mr. C. Taylor. After bearing Mr. Bary in support of his report, it was unanimously decided to adopt tho suggestion it contained and to hold a sports meeting at tbe Sportsground on Wednesday next, February 27, commencing at 1 p.m. In regard to the question generally, the view was expressed that the experience of other local school committees justified the attitude adopted by Mr. Bary during the last year, when ho advocated some form of entertainment or substitute for tho school picnic. Further, Mr. Bary outlined the scheme he proposes as the form of sport to be provided for the children. This lie rather aptly described as "tabloid athletics” and from his description it pi onuses fun and interest for the children engaged and also the parents and onlookers. The whole of the organisation is in the hands of the staff, and they will be helped by the committee and friends who will dispense picnic faro to the children. While the event is in the nature of an experiment, all present expressed the opinion that it should be productive of good competition, with au accompanying wealth of enjoyment.
