Field Events Decided SAVIDAN SUPEEHE OVER THREE MILKS} WELLINGTON DOING WELL. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night* . The New Zealand amateur athletic championships w r ere commenced to-day on the Basin Reserve in perfect summer weather. The championship events resulted: — 100 Yards.
First heat: C. Jenkins (Wgtn.) 1 H. McCoy (Auckland) ...... 2 J. H. Murphy (Canterbury) .. 3 Time, 10 l-ssees. Second heat: A. J. Elliott (A.) 1 B. Geddes (A.) .. 2 R. Cordery (C.) 3 Time, lOsec. The final will be rus to-morrow. .. 220 Yards. First .heat: R. Cordery (C.) 1 C. Jenkins (W.) 2 H. McCoy (A.) 3 Cordery ran a great race and just pipped Jenkins, who appeared to be easing up. McCoy was close at hand, third. Time, 23 l-ssecs. Second heat: A. J. Elliott (A.) .. 1 B. Geddes (O.) 2 L. C. Veitch (W.) 3 Elliott mado no race of it, winning by eight yards. Time, 23 l-ssecs. The final will be run to-morrow. 440 Yards. First heat: A. W. Findlay (O.) 1 J. T. Fleming (-W.) 2 A; L. Tideruan (C.) 3 .Won by inches. Time, 50 4-ssccs. :}/. Second heat: L. C. McLachlan (O.) 1* N. Stevens (W.) 3 Running easily together, Savidan and Taylor led over the first mile, tho pair keeping about 40 yards ahead of Silver, who was 20 yards ahead of Garrett and Stevens. Half-way ound the fifth lap, Savidan lengthened hi 3 stride and after making a vpin effort to hold him, Taylor dropped back in the following lap. Shortly after, he was overtaken by Silver, but at the two miles mark, Savidan was half a lap ahead of the latter. At the bell, tho Auckland runner had a three-quarter lap lead and he broke the tape only a few yards behind Taylor almost lapping tho Canterbury man. Time, 14min. 59 3-sscc. Silver’s timo was 15min. 40 2-ssecs.
Three Mile Walk. W. Tonkin (Wn.) 1 S. Gudsell (Wn.) 2 The only starters. Over the greater part of the distance, the two entrants hung together, but in the last half-mile, Tonkin mado the pace too stiff for his big opponent and won by a very comfortable margin. Time, 22.54.

Visiting Athletes PROM SOUTH AFRICA, CANADA AND AMERICA. WELLINGTON, Last. Night. A conference of delegates of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association decided late to-night to make an immediate endeavour to arrange for a visit to New Zealand next season of a team of athletes from South Africa or Canada, or failing that, from America.
