News reached British Columbia lumber exporters and manufacturers to-day that a new jolt has been given them by United States rivals, backed by the government.
Not} content with a monopoly of the South American export market under government subsidies and steamship services and the possibility of capturing the Canadian trade to Australia by similar bonusing, running into 10,000 to 18,000 dollars for the round trip, the United States exporters liavo decided to make a bid for trade with Britain and South Africa. The Moore Company at San Francisco is planning to start a subsidised line in June, operating Shipping Board vessels.
