DAIRY INDUSTRY ACT

GENERAL REGULATIONS. The Cheltenham Co-operative Dairy Company has set out those regulations which came into force in December under the Dairy Industry Act, which affect cream suppliers and butter factories. Briefly tho regulations are:— i 1. Every person erecting a milking machine on a dairy farm shall notify | the director or an officer of tho Dairy Division. No person shall erect a used milking machine until it has been inspected and passed by an officer of tho Dairy Division. 2. No milk or cream for use in the manufacture of food for human consumption shall be brought into direct contact with any bucket, can, chute, pipe, vat, cooler’ pasteuriser, or other such appliance made of copper, brass, steel, or iron, unless such appliance is properly coated with tin or other approved covering. 3. During the months of June, July, and August in each year in tho Nortli Island, und June, July, August and September in the South Island, there shall bo only two grades of cream, known as first grade and second grade respectively. 4. All butter factories must issue cream dockets in duplicate, one copy is to be sent to the supplier and the other kept at tho factory. With regard to the last-mentioned regulation, the policy of a duplicate docket has been in operation at Malcino factory since tho inception of cream grading, but apparently such has not been the case with every butter company, otherwise there would have been no need for this clause.
