ATHLETIC NOTES

(By Sprinter)

The New Zealand championship meeting is being held in Wellington on Friday and Saturday next, when the pick of the different Athletic Centres throughout New Zealand will be competing. Sprinter considers that F. J. Grose, treble New Zealand champion, Tom Oakley, Wellington champion, and Wade, Auckland champion, should fill the prices in the cycle events. Others who should bo in the picture are O’Brien and Mac Kay (Canterbury), Gsne tWcllington) and Adamson (West Coast-Taranaki). Of the ladies, Miss Norma Wilson, who is running with great confidence at present, should hold her own. Miss E. Marfyn, of Canterbury, lias done well in Christchurch, and may be tlio surprise of the meeting. Of Manawatu cyclists, Murray Donald is riding particularly well and the sub-centre is looking to him on March 2 to make Tom Oakley do hi- best. The consistent rider Prouse, with 30 points for the Boomerang Cup. is still loading while Donald has 21 and several others have round about 15, so the few meetings to be mil by the Manawatu club in tho future will be full of interest.

Sprinter would have liked to see Miss M. Barron take her price in the New Zealand ladies 100 yards cham pionship next Saturday. However, when she meets Miss AVilson in Palmerston North, people will be able to sec what her worth is. News has arrived that Mr. Doyle, of Foxton, has been reinstated ama teur and we are hoping that E. Pedley and E. Burrell (the latter is one of tho best sprint cyclists seen here) get through too, while several others arc contemplating returning to the amateur ranks.

The whole of this sub-centre will wish H. McDonald its sole representative in the New Zealand championships, the best of luck on Friday. Handicaps for cycle events at the Bunnythorpe sports to be held on February 23 havo been declared by Mr. J. A. Cooksley, handieapper, as follow:
