SHARK ATTACKS WOMEN BATHERS IN HAURAKI GULF
BOTH RECEIVE WOUNDS. Per Press Association. PUKEKOHE, Jan. 14. While bathing in a tidal creek near the Miranda wharf, on Friday evening Mrs. J. C. Foote, wife of a Pipiroa settler, and a femalo companion were attacked by a shark. Tho latter received a nasty bite on- the thigh. She screamed for help. " Mrs. Footo went to hor assistance, and when near hot companion, received a bito on th# right forearm. Both lost no time in gaining tho shore.
Later the fin of a shark was observed cutting through the water, but it disappeared. The women’s wounds were attended to, and they are now progressing favourably. Miranda is situated in the Haurnki Gulf, midway between Waitakaruru and New Brighton.
