MISHAP IN HAYFIELD
LOSS OF BOTH FEET. LITTLE GIRL'S TERRIBLE INJURY. TE AROHA, Friday. A shocking accident occurred during haymaking operations on Mr. A. Lennard's farm at Waihou yesterday. Dismounting from a pony his daughter Betty, aged eight years, walked toward the mowing machine her father was driving. The latter was negotiating a difficult piece of land near a drain and was unaware of the presence of his daughter until she unknowingly stepped directly in the path of the machine, the blades of which cleanly severed both her feet at the ankles. The littlo sufferer was rushed to To Aroha, where, after hurried emergency treatment, an operation was successfully performed. She is now progressing satisfactorily at the Norana Hospital.
