Mr E. C. Surtees, of Middleton-in-Tccsdale, recently found a pure white house sparrow, scarcely able to fly, and placed it in a cage 300 yards away. The parent birds and four younger ones went and fluttered round the cage in an apparent endeavour to release it. Mr Surtees liberated it, and it flew away with the rest of the family. There was no sign of colour in the feathers, and the bird’s eyes were pink. ADVERTISING in the ■'Manawatn Times” gets action the same day.
