DRAINAGE SYSTEM AT WAIKERIA FARM
SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS. Per Press Association. HAMILTON, Jan. 12. At the inquest concerning the .death of Frederick Logic, an inmate of the Borstal Institute, who died from typhoid fever in the Waikato hospital, Joseph Terry, health officer, said that the drainage system at Waikcria was not satisfactory. There was drainage in open channels from the lino of building. The night soil was dumped into an open pit 200 yards from the building. The Health department this week recommended the Prisons department to instal a septic tank. Dr. Hockin, the medical superintendent at the hospital, said that Logie was a very sick man when admitted. Logic informed him that he had been feeling ill for ten days, but had not. informed the Borstal officers. Tho remaining three typhoid patients from Waikcria were recovering. The coroner, Mr. Wyvern Wilson, said that, in view of the recommendation of the Health department, ho would simply find n verdict in accordance with the medical evidence that death was due to toxemia.
