SHIPOWNERS OBJECT TO SEAMEN’S RULES
TOO FAR-REAOHING. OPPOSITION TO BOTH UNIONS LIKELY, United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Sunday, 7 p.m. MELBOURNE, Jan. 13. Tho Commonwealth Steamship Owners’ association is objecting to the registration of the new Australian Seamen ’s Union unless its rules are altered. The owners contend that the union’s definition of tho industry ’is too wide and may complicate business by involving tho association in disputes extending to other countries. The rules were lodged in November. Now that another organisation of the Seamen’s Union of Australia lias applied for re-registration, the owners may lodge objection to this also.
