WELLINGTON SWIMMING CENTRE CHAMPIONSHIPS
W. CAMERON WINS 100 YARDS IN RECORD TIME. QUARTER MILE TO C. CLARIDGE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Wellington centre of the New Zealand Swimming association held its championship carnival on Saturday in perfect weather in the To Aro baths before a large attendance, results:— 100 yards centre championship.—W. Cameron 1, C. Claridge 2, J. Blakeley 3. Time, 56 4-osecs. A New Zealand record. 100 yards ladies' championship.— Miss Kathleen Miller 1. Time, 75 l-ssecs. 440 yards centre championship.— O. Claridge 1, C. Rix Troft 2, G. Blakeley 8. Won by 25 yards. Arne Borg Wins Quarter-Mile WITH LITTLE IN RESERVE. Received Sunday, 7 p.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 13. The New South Wales swimming championships have commenced. Borg was given an ovation when ho appeared. Charlton watched the races from the bank. In the boys’ 220 yards championship, Cecil Light (Sydney) won in the record time of 2.34. The 440 yards resulted:—Borg (Sweden), 1; Ryan (Manly), 2; Griffiths (Sydney), 3. Borg soon had the lead and won by 25 yards, with the’ third man five yards away. Time, 5.5 1-5. The winner appeared to have little in reserve and observers are of opinion that Charlton could have beaten him. The 100 yards back-stroke resulted: Campbell, 1; Watson, 2; Rowe, 3. Time, 1.14 i.
