Disqualification ?

Sydney League Players May be “On the Mat” PLAYED NIGHT FOOTBALL It may be the "off” season for League football In Auckland, Dut not so Sydney. Last Saturday night week a game was played between teams representing Eastern Suburbs and South Sydney under the auspices of Speedway Royal, Ltd. As a result, it is possible that when the N.S.W. Rugby League meets next Monday night (January 7), a number of young men may be called on to show reason why they should not be diqualified. It ■tfas a rude shock for the sound commercial instincts of the League when the Speedways people decided to stage a League match. The League promptly passed a resolution warning its players that they were liable to disqualification if they took part in night football. STARS WITHDRAW Apparently this veto had its effect, because Wearing and Treweeke, two of Sydney’s star players, decided at the last moment not to play. An Australian team is going to England next year, and they evidently decided not to jeopardise their chances of going with it. The other players, however, decided to “box on.” Now they are wondering what tho League is going to "do about it. Tho Speedways people, too, are waiting to see what action the League will take, and are staging no more football in the meantime. Altogether, the position bristles with the makings of a first-class sensation in the 13-a-side code.
