HINTS FOR WASHING-DAY
To set colours in new materials, before washing, grate two medium-sized potatoes as fine as possible, add half a cupful of rinegar and a quarter cupful of salt. Allow this mixture to stand for 10 minutes. Then add one gallon of rainwater. Let the article soak in the mixture for a full 20 minutes before “tubbing.” Not only are the colours set by this treatment, but are rendered “sunproof” and fadeless.
