AMERICAN VIEWS. SOUTHERN CROSS FLIGHT AND PRESIDENTIAL FIGHT. United Press Association —By Electris Telegraph —Copyright. NEW YORK, Jan. 3. The Daily News, an illustrated newspaper which has a regular column, the “Inquiry Photographer," asked six people on tho street what was the outstanding news event in 1928. Three replied: “Tho Presidential election." The remaining three said: “The Flight of the Southern Cross to Australia." Among the latter, one said: “It was the first conclusive proof we had of the practicability of commercial flying for such great distances. The flight was a complete report of the progress in aviation." Another said “The most interesting event of the year was tho wonderful flight of the Southern Cross. I was greatly thrilled to read tho radio reports announcing the 'plane’s progress." The third said: “It show'ed the possibilities of aviation and also strengthened the already strong friendship between this country and Australia." Two of the three wero women.
