Among the latter, one said: “It was the first conclusive proof we had of the practicability of commercial flying for such great distances. The flight was a complete report of the progress in aviation." Another said “The most interesting event of the year was tho wonderful flight of the Southern Cross. I was greatly thrilled to read tho radio reports announcing the 'plane’s progress."
