RUMOUR REGARDING MANGAHAO LEAKAGE
OFFICIALLY DENIED. TO BE LINKED-UP WITH WAIKAEEMOANA SOON. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 4. Tho rumour that one of the Manga* hao dams is leaking has received an unqualified denial at the hands of the department. All being well, tho Wailcarcmoana scheme should bo linked-up with Mangahao toward, the close of the month, supplying about one-third of its intended power and lightening the re* sponsibilities throughout Wellington, Hawke’s Bay and the surrounding districts. The installation is not yet complete, but the machinery so far erected was run on December 21 in order to bed down the bearings. It will be run for a few days for the purposo of drying out the generators which will be capable of an output of 20,000 k.v.a. A second unit will be installed within about throe months and the official opening will take place at that time.
