BOY DROWNED AT PORT AHURIRI
FALLS FROM WHARF. Per Press Association. NAPIER, Last Night. A tragic drowning occurred at Port Ahuriri early this afternoon, when a nine-year-old boy, Alfred Caney, while playing with companions on the wharf at tho entrance to the inner harbour, slipped into the tide and was swept away before help could bo obtained. Dragging operations were continued till late to-night, but without success. The deceased child had been sent by his mother with his father’s lunch. This he delivered and then was evidently attracted by two companions who were fishing from tho wharf. No clear account is given of how the mishap occurred.
