A large meeting of timber workers at tho Trades hall, Sydney, decided almost unanimously to strike as from to-morrow against Judge Lukin’s recent award lixing the hours at 48 per week Hundreds of men arc involved. Mr Jock Garden, secretary of the Labour Council, stated to-day that the meeting regarded Judge Lukin’s award as vicious and iniquitous. It not only increased the working hours and also re-introduced Saturday work, but reduced wages to skilled men by 18/a week. Mr Garden added that an attempt to get a conference with the master timber merchants had failed, but anothei attempt would be made o-night. A Melbourne message says there ia considerable unrest among tho timber workers over Judgo Lukin’s award, but before direct action is taken, a conference of unions directly and indirectly concerned will be held on January 9th., to discuss the positi6n.
