THE BUSINESS WOMAN AT HOME
METHOD MAKES SUCCESS. Tho woman who lias been thoroughly trained in businesslike methods before her marriage will find the introduction of similar methods of great help in her housekeeping. Punctuality, methodical ways, absolute tidiness, and the keeping to a time table as far as possible will do much to lessen the burden of domestic work. Of course, it is impossible to “run” tho house on the same rigid lines as those which govern an office. There must necessarily be many unexpected situations, and emergencies! will arise which will upset tho most perfectly arranged timetable, but the mere fact of having a timetable in the background will be of assistance. Without method there is bound to be a muddle. A workmanlike kitchen, with everything to hand for cooking and housework, is one of the first necessities of a well organised household. Check Expenses. The keeping of household accounts is another important part, of housekeeping. • Some women prefer to pay for their goods at the shop, or when they are delivered at the door; others have monthly accounts; and still more ,pay all their tradesmen weekly. Whatever plan is preferred, keep to' it and lalwavs. pay regularly. Everything ’that is ordered or bought should be entered into a book daily, so that a check may be kept cn what is spent. It is well to have a budget aud arrange to spend so much of one’s, income on rent, so much on coal and light, so Bnuch on food, etc. Then, if one finds one spending more than one can afford it is not difficult to pick out the item which is causing the greatest expense, and probably effect an economy. It ,is well to allow a small sum weekly ■for. petty cash, to cover the purchase of odds and ends, stamps, tips, etc. Tile all Eeeipes. The filing of good recipes and domestic hints is another businesslike method which works well in the kitchen. When a file or index is kept, valuable time is r.ot wasted searching through various cookery books.
