LEADERSHIP OF SALVATION ARMY

' Australian Press Association. LONDON, Jan. 1. Considerable interest is being taken in tho Salvation Army High Council. Friends of General Booth declare that his illness docs not prevent him carrying out his duties. Furthermore, there is no avowed rival in the field for the leadership. On the other hand, another section holds that the day of "one man control” has gone and that the constitution must be overhauled. It would appear at tho present opinion that the delegates are more or less equally divided. Commandant Evangeline Booth, who thus far has been unable to see her brother, declares that if the council decides that tho General is fit to continue in office she must accept tho position, but "other issues would then arise.” WHY THE GENERAL IS GUARDED. WILL BE TOLD TRUTH LATER. Received Wednesday, 7.0 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 2. Asked why General Booth was unable to seo tho High Council delegates and even his sister, Colonel Tucker, a high official of the Salvation Army, replied that the doctor would not allow the General to be told about the summoning of the council. Therefore it was impossible for him to see any delegates. If he did he would naturally want to know why they were here.

Even if his sister tried to hide the real reason of her presence the General was so mentally alert that he would discover tho truth in a few minutes’ conversation. The General will be told about the meeting when it ended if his health permits, also he will be informed of the decision.
