A message from Innisfail states that Signor Luciano, the Italian Vice-Con-sul, stated in an interview to-day that the restitution of the Italian coat-of-arms would take place in a quiet manner, in the presence of a few compatriots. There would be nothing of a hostile nature. The police so far have failed to trace the. miscreant who removed the coat-of-arms. PREMIERS EXPRESS REGRETS. Received Wednesday, Midnight. BRISBANE, Jan. 2. Mr. Forgan Smith, deputy Premier, sent a reply to the Italian Consul concerning the removal of the coat of arms at. Innisfail and the Federal Prime Minister (Mr. Stanley Bruce) sent a communication to the Consul expressing the deepest regret. The, . shire council of Innisfail is taking steps to prohibit any Italian demonstration for the restoration of the coat of arms. “ Just for Fun ! ” DRAMA TURNS TO COMEDY. Received Midnight. The coat-of-arms incident has taken a dramatic turn by the announcement to-night that two small boys have confessed to having removed the consul’s brass plate "just for fun.” The deputy Premier hopes the matter is now ended and respectfully suggested that the Italian community abandon the proposed ceremony.
