COLLEGE STUDIES FOR SHEEP FARMERS

LECTURES AND DEMONSTRA- • TIONS. A large number of inquiries for tuition in sheep farming have been received by Massey Agricultural College and at their meeting yesterday, the Council decided to offer a special course in this subject during the coming season. It will take much the same form as the course in dairy farming and will be confined to subjects of interest' to sheep farmers. It will bo designed to cater for the man who is going to farm for himself rather than the professional man who requires a degree course. It will consist of lectures at the College during the winter'terhi with practical work during the summer with the college flock. The subject to be taught will include ‘ soils and manures, pastures and crops, sheep management and veterinary science, wool and wool-classing, drainage, fencing, farm implements and farm business principles. The Council further decided to offer during the next term, a course in wool-classing which will include ■ lectures on growth, quality and hereditary characteristics of wool fibres. In view of tho appointment to Massey College of Dr Dry who has been engaged in wool research work under Prof. Barker, of Leeds (England), it is considered the College will bo in a position to render very effective assistance to pastoralists of New Zealand. Representatives of tho College proceed to Wellington to-day at the request of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, to discuss the organisation of wool research in New Zealand with other interested bodies.
