'{FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) ’%EW.YORK, July 22 , /DrT Doranthe Commissioner of Prohibition in a Washington, gave orders yesterday for a more strenuous campaign against violations of the liquor laws, and for’ its more effective prosecution the taking of finger-prints, hitherto employed only upon those'charged ,with a felony, is to be extended to misdemeanants. Henceforth - anyone in the United Slates who gives anyone else a drink of anything containing more than one-half of 1 per cent, of alcohol, or who transports even a minute quantity of such a drink ’no farther than, say, across the street, or who has such liquor in his possession/ makes himself liable to have his .finger-, prints taken, and to have them and his Bertillon measurements, together with a ■ record of his life and doings, included in ,a sort of “ National Rogues’ Gallery. ■Nor are~these all the offences which make one eligible for such distinction The' possibilities 'i of transgression of the Volstead Act a'nd the Eighteenth Amend- 1 ment are as the sands of the sea, and every one of them which involves a mis-’ demeanour can earn the offender his finger-prints and his dossier in Washington .
