WORLD’S OLDEST REGIMENT
The Honourable Artillery Company, of London, to which the Prince of Wales was admitted a member a few weeks ago, is not only the oldest British regiment, but is the oldest regiment in the world. It had its first charter to enroll members from Henry VIXI. iu 1537, and some historians have traced its existence back to the time of the Normans. Bluff King Hal established a “Fraterhitio or Guylde of Artillary of Lohgbowes, Crossbowes, apd Headgears/’ with the right to admit its own members and elect its own officers.
