CLAIM FOR £SOOO MADE FOR SERVICES OF TUG
Per Press Association.. WELLINGTON, Last Night. In the Supremo Court to-day the Wanganui Harbour Board is claiming £SOOO from the Canterbury, Steamship Company in respect 1,0 the tug Kahunui going to the assistance of the steamer Gale in April after the towline of the Terawhiti, the Wellington tug, had parted. The statement of claim set out that the Gale, when in a dangerous situation off a lee shore, signified her acceptance of the Kahunui’s offer of assistance if required. The tug got a towline aboard and towed the Gale to Wellington. It is claimed that the tug was instrumental in saving the Gale and the lives of those aboard, and that considerable risk had been incurred in taking the tug to the Gale in her precarious position.
