DENTAL CLINIC TOE COUNTRY ‘ SCHOOLS. From Our Own Correspondent. Tho Eongotca Schools' Committee held its usual monthly meeting in the school room on Monday evening when there were present, Messrs. W. J. Amies (chairman), E. A. Bucjianan (secretary), H, J. Ransom, J. Duke, J. Parker, F, C. Burgess, and C. W. Biggins ( headmaster). The Minister of Health wrote acknowledging the receipt of tho chairman’s letter, concerning the dental clinics, and in reply stated: ‘‘l have to state that the roll numbers arc not sufficient for the establishment of a full, time dental- clinic but no doubt Rongotea would be suitable as a subbase where the children from the school named might be treated. However, as I stated previously, there is no service available at present, but at a later date when the allocation of dental clinics ■ for next year comes to be dealt with, I will he pleased to give consideration to your representations. Possibly, it may interest you to hear that there arc requests in the hands of the Department from" something like 260 localities for clinics. No nurses are at present- available to meet the requests of an extension of the service. They require to be trained. ” It was decided that a meeting of representatives of tho surrounding primary schools be held in the Eongotca School on Monday, August 6th at 7.30 p.m., when tho subject will be properly investigated and something definite arranged.:. As the subject is a very important one, it is hoped that the delegates from tho various school committees will not overlook the fixture, but attend in force so that their opinions may be voiced. A resolution that Mr.. Davison he asked in writing that tho w;ork done by the committee and rent of the paddocks be ‘considered of equivalent value, and that a clean receipt bo given on cither side; failing this Mr Davison bo asked for a detailed account of his expenditure, was passed. Mr. J, Duke, brought up the matter of cars being parked on the hockey and football grounds. It was decided that a prico be obtained for a wash sink for the use of the footballers and organisers of picnics. It is a very much . needed requisite and it is hoped that the committee will be in aj position to have it installed. ■.

The Education Board is -to be reminded of their promise to erect a tool and coke shed, a bell, and new posts at the entrance of the school grounds. The: promise was made when the new school was officially opened on Bth April 1927. Th'o headmaster reported: “The average attendance remains satisfactory. As the result of the .half yearly term tests, the pupils are showing that good progress has been made in the work .which they have gone through with since the beginning of the year, and there is every possibility that a high percentage will be obtained in proficiency ,and in class promotions.” : Accounts passed for payment amounted to 12s.
