.from Our Own Correspondent, At the Tararua Electric Power Board monthly meeting it was reported by the chairman, Mr J. D. Wilson, that the question of striking a, special rate to meet the heavy depreciation imposed, could be left over in abeyance. Mr Wilson furnished a statement, compiled wifh'thc object of showing that the percentage of working coses in relation to revenue for the past year for nineteen power boards operating throughout the Dominion. This report showed that the Tararua Board,was in a favourable position. Several of i the boards hed been in operation for six or seven years and they were still running at a' loss, whereas tho Tararua board was on tho credit side already. During the past year a credit of £23 had been shown. By the treasurer’s statement it was shown that the revenue was. gradually' increasing whilst the overhead: costs were being reduced At the last monthly meeting of the board members .had been rather alarmed at the depreciation fund but now he could sec a way whereby the board would not bo 'required to strike a rate or increase the price of . electricity. Things were going on very successfully and progressively and ratepayers need not be alarmed at the position of tho Board, Ho thought that tho increase in revenue for the present year estimated by the manager would bo even greater and out of these profits the depreciation could bo met. County Offices: There were sixteen .tenders received for the new County offices, and that of Messrs. Wise and Hume, Masterton, was finally accepted. Excavation! had already been commenced, and.it was anticipated that the building will be completed early in December. The new building will bo a very-imposing structure. _ Five wide steps will lead up to a spacious entrance. Behind tho doors and parallel to them will rqn the hall measuring 25ft.-by 10ft. On tbo right-hand side will be the gcncrai office, 20ft. by 12ft., and the strongroom. Oft. Gin. square. On the loft of the entrance will be the overseer's office, 20ft. by 12ft., and •across the hall will be the spacious Council Chambers, measuring 36ft by 24ft., and leading off at either end will bo the chairman’s and the clerk’s office. The architects are Messrs.’ C. T. Natusch and Son, Wellington. Pahiatua Bowling Club. At the annual meeting of the Palliatua Bowling Club, held in the Borough Council Chambers, there was a fair attendance' of members. The president, Mr H. McSherry • was in the chair. Speaking bn the report of the balance sheet the chairman said that the financial position was extremely satisfactory. The club’s indebtedness had been considerably reduced and next year year there was avery reason to hope that there would be a credit balance. Tho speaker referred to the loss the club had sustained by the death of Mr J. S. Bissett and to the death of Mrs. A. Barrell, the late wife of the patron of the club. The late secretary, Mr C. Jennings, and the present secretary Mr W. Britland were also mentioned in complimentary terms. The report and balance sheet were unanimously adopted.

Morris were appointed delegates to the- Manawatu centre. Mr J. Goner Chambers moved “that it be a recommendation to the' incoming committee that in future the annual meeting of ■the^club be'held not later than the.middle of June." , A The motion w-as seconded and carried unanimously. ; ; On the motion of Mr. S. K. Siddells, it was decided to wire to the member of the district asking -him to support the Summer Time Bill. School Fancy Dress Dance. The annual school dance took place in the Drill Hall on Monday night. The weather conditions; were ideal for the occasion. The decorations of the hall were intact, having been left By the Eaee Club Ball committee for the occasion. The spirit of the children coupled' with the vast array of colour was certainly a sight to sec,. Prom five to ten o’clock the happy throng danced and romped to their hearts’ content. One very outstanding feature was that nearly every child wore a fancy dress or costume, making the task of judging a very difficult one. Nevertheless the judges, Mesdames F. G. Thompson and T. Saxton after a long and. careful consideration made the awards as follows; — Girls: Best paper dress, Harvini Bick (Early Victorian), most original dress, Joan Paget, (Umbrella), most economical, Joan Murch (Sweets). Boys: Best dress, Kenneth Paterson (Knave of Hearts); best paper dress, Arthur Smith (Ehubarb), most original Paul Eobinson (Skeleton), most economical, Alan Jones (Clothespegs). Special prizes were also awarded to Audrey and Majorie Aston, (Two Old Sisters); Janet Mason (Danger Signal) Mac Bentley (CandelstLck); Ngairc Etz (Green Locust). Before the Mayoress, Mrs. J. D. G. Crewe, presented the prizes, the chairman of the school committee and the

headmaster, Mr M. J. O’Connor, thanked tho parents and friends for donations and assistance in making the ball the success that it had been, the judges, Mrs. Crewe, Mr. A. Hamilton for providing flowers, the school stall and particularly Mr Chester Burt, whose orchestra provided the music. Extras were also supplied by Mr E, Parker. The M’s.C. were Messrs. J. H. Lister,, and W. E. Eiehardson, whilst Mr M. J. O’Connor was the Master of Ceremonies while the' children were disporting .themselves. Dancing was kept up until midnight. Personal. Mrs. G. Harold Smith has left for a holiday which will be spent at Wairoa and Eptorua. Mrs. Day, of Wellington, is the guest of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. C. D. M. Day, Tararua Street. \ ■ Miss E. Burt has returned to Pahiatua after an extended visit to Dunedin and Southland. Mrs. J. A. Graham, of Taihape, is on a visit to relatives at Pahiatua. Mrs. E. A. Thompson, of Wellington, who has been the guest of Mrs. W. D. Harris for the past fortnight, returned (to her home a few days ago, Mr J. D. Wilson, chairman of the Tararua Electric Powmr Board left yesterday to attend .the Power Boards’ conference in Wellington,
