Collum explained that the decision to play Tilden was taken entirely on his own responsibility. , Perhaps in America they did not appreciate the French feeling that victory would be incomplete if Tilden wsis not played. Besides, Tilden had coached his colleagues. '■ Mr. Collum added that Tilden must Meet the charges on his return to America, but the charges did not con, travene the international regulations, and therefore there was no reason for dropping Tilden.
