The death occurred oh Tuesday morning of one of the early settlers of the Eangitikci district. Mr .Alexander Bill, who passed' away "at the advanced ago of 84 ycarts. A message from Victoria (British Columbia) states that Bishop Count John, Mikes, of Budapest, accompanied by Rev. Zabo, sailed yesterday for thi Eucharistic Congress in' Sydney.
The Palmerston North Chess Club has received advice that, acting on its recommendation, tho New. ' Zealand Chess Association has appointed Mr. A. H. M. Wright a vice-president. The many friends of Mr. Goorgo A. Broad, of Palmerston North, who is at present an inmate of the Public Hospital will bo pleased to hear that be/ is making good progress after hiS recent operation. . A telegram from Auckland states that Bishop Cleary, who was injured in a motor accident on Sunday, travelled from Hamilton in a hammock suspended in tho train. He stood tho journey well. . It is expected that he will have recovered sufficiently to attend the Eucharistic Congress at Sydney in September.
