A CORRECTION
To the Editor. • Sir, —Kindly permit me to correct the figures and a statement in last Friday’s issue in your report of my evidence given before the commission sitting in Feilding. The comparison in rates made by me was that a prominent business man was paying £l7, and the Mayor (Mr. Graham) £9/14/2 (not £l9/14/2 as reported) on their residential properties which are centrally situated and receive the full benefit of all the borough services, against my own rates, £33/9/15. I did not state that I was not receiving the benefit of any of the borough services. My evidence was given on oath, and my statements were made strictly in accordance with facts, and the actual conditions existing. What I said was this: “Assuming we were receiving the same benefit regarding services supplied, it was obviously unfair and unjust to compel the dwellers on farm lands to pay from three to ten times as much in rates as the average ratepayer." Thanking you in anticipation, I am etc., A. W. SUTTON.
