ALBANIAN SENATE DECIDES ON CHANGE
MOVE SEEN AS FURTHER STEP TOWARD MONARCHY, WITH ZOGU AS KING. BELGRADE. The Albanian Senate has decided to change the Constitution of the country and this was regarded as a further attempt to establish a monarchy with Ahmed-Bey Zogu, President of Albania, as King. | After the present : Constitution was .framed in 1925 with Ahmed Zogu as President, he was stated to have tried (to win the consent of Jugoslav and Italian diplomats. for the .conversion •of Albania into a monarchy. The Jugoslavians refused but the Italians agreed “in. principle,” From that time forward Ahmed Zogu has been anti-Serbian and pro-Italian. ' In recognition ,of her consent, Italy ’claimed certain concessions which were 'granted by the Tirana pact of 1927. Jugoslavia .called ; the attention of Great, Britain and Prance to this and pressure ,was - exerted to prevent Ahmed Zogii, from becoming King.
A second Tirana ' treaty of friendship and, arbitration in 1927 is regarded as .having pint Albania finally under the protection of Italy and assured Albania of. Italian miliary support in' case of Serbian opposition. Since that time Ahmed. Zogu was stated to have worked successfully toward his goal and everything was- ; now considered to be ready for .changing the Constitution. '
