Professor Barker showing Empire farmers around the textile depart- r ment at the 'Leeds .University stated that a member of the. physics department had ' just invented a .simple instrument, tele- . scopiic in form, showing at sight, the average fibre diameter of wools. With this so simple Instrument. the wool grower could measure the shoulder bfitch wool of sheep, decide if the difference was too great and select accordingly, for breeding. - 1 '- ■ / - '<• Without such instrument two. hundred microscopic readings were necessary, which was out of the 'question for the practical grower.
