Gisborne Also, Acceptances for the first day of the Gisborne E.C. meeting to be held on Thursday and Saturday next week also close this evening at 8 p.ur. . Glendowie Scratched. The following is a copy of a telegram seat by Mr. Henry Bothcrby, owner of Glendowie, to the Canterbury Jockey Club this afternoon Please withdraw Glendowie, all engagements. Consider weights excessive, especially Hurdles.” ■_ ' Further Scratchiugs. Beaumont was scratched for thi Winter Cup at 10.45 yesterday morning. Duke Abbey: was scratched at 12.45 for the Winter Cup, ■ y , : ; Askari Pleases ;•> Askari made a very good showing in the Hack Steeplechase at Trentham on Thursday last, his jumping being, excellent, although. careful. Askari ie a particularly well bred horse for a steeplechaser, and, with experience, he looks like turning, put a very useful sort over country. His owner-trainer, E. E. Hatch, was quite prepared for the forward showing, for Askari had shown him great jumping ability when being qualified with the Manawatu Hunt. He is to contest the Open Steeples at the Point-tO-Point fixture on Wednesday next. Reduced Team.

Only-' thre- Auckland horses left Auckland on Wednesday for Gisborne. They, were Bahadur;'Dave and Eahopoto. ■ ■ ;■ .. ; Foe Biccarton, - . .

Mr W. expects to have three horses racing at the Grand National meeting. > G. Jones will tak,e Atareria and Chelone, while K. Knapp ■will make the trip with the hunter Home Made. ■ Tarleton to be Tubed. ' • sj !

Tarleton is to be operated on for throat troubles and when next ho is seen in public ho will bo tubed. J Boyd does not anticipate that the operation will necessitate a spell. Eapier Does Fast Work.

Noteworthy showed some of his two-year-old pace in smartly traversing four furlongs along the back at Biccarton on W«di;. ‘day morning. - A similar ’task was h-xotted to Eapier and Claymore. This was the former’s first fast ■work since being brought in. It is intended to give him one or two races at the Grand National, before entering upon the programme adopted with him twelve months ago. ‘Claymore, who gives promise of being a useful horse during the coming season, is down, to contest tho Levels Hack Handicap at Timaru to-morrow. ( * Jones’ New-Purchase. t ■

Eoscrea and Lighthearted, were associated in a task over four furlongs at Biccarton on Wednesday, finishing together in comparatively fast time. After tho gallop, E. D. Jones completed the purchase of Lighthearted from H. Nurse, for 450 guineas on behalf of an Australian owner, and the gelding will, bo included in the team for Sydney. Lighthearted, who is rising six-year-old, by Greyspear from Sweet Smile, was. not put into training until b,c was a four-year-old and has only been raced on two occasions, for a second and an unplaced performance. He is built on very solid lines and gives every indication that weight would not seriously trouble him, an asset that will stand to him in his future career in Australia. Winter Cup Possibility. Black Mint, who won the Whyte Memorial Handicap at the Wellington meeting, ran two good races on the succeeding days. On (Saturday he finished fifth in the Winter Oats Handicap, carrying 11.2, and with 10.11 is sure to be hard to dispose of in the Winter Cup at Eiccarton if started. Tho soft going suits him.

Tea Miss and xhe Earth Sold. ' New Zealand trainer W. J. Donovan evidently believes in doing things thoroughly. He arrived in Sydney only a few weeks ago with Greengrocer, Tea Miss, The Earth, Amplifier and Gold Tray, and already has made two unsuccessful tilts at the “ring” with Gold Tray and Tea Miss. The last- ' named was backed heavily last Saturday week for the Nursery Handicap, and, although she was only third, she did not secure an opening until Bpl Astro practically had the race won, She finished strongly, and created the impression that tho run would, greatly benefit her. When Tea Miss again turns out for a race she will carry the colours of Mr. Otway E. Palkiner, being sold on behalf of Mrs M. A. Perry, to that well-known owner. Tea Miss ■ will- be under the care of M. Poison. She is by imported Tea Tray from Miss Girons. The Earth, another member of Donovans' team, has also changed [ hands, and will most likely compete at f A.E.C. fixtures. By Leighton (imp.) from Miss Ball, The Earth was here last spring with P. Ncagle’s other horses Eidgomount, Pari and. Amplifier. ’They were owned by Mj. W. G. Stead, and The Earth showed plenty of pace in the two-year-old trials. ' Qualified Hunters.

Birlcle, Hats Oft', Tarci'O, Cahmlation and Abasan Lave completed their qualilication as hunters, and may be seen
