AMPUTATION IN STREET
GIRL LOSSES A LEG. PINNED BY A CAR. ; Miss E. Mayes, aged. 23, England, had her leg amputated in the street near her home a few weeks ago. She was standng on t. a pavement waiting for a bus when she was struck by a car, which swerved and mounted the pavement in avoiding a collision. As she was struck Miss 'ayes was ■ lifted up and jammed between the bon- ' net and wing of the car, and the front spring pierced icr log just below the knee. It was found impossible to remove her and a doctor was summoned.' He had to amputate the leg below the ( knee to got Miss Mayes free. It was 20 minutes between the time ( Miss Mayes was struck and the time she was removed,, but she did not lose consciousness. i
