GIRL GUIDES
DEDICATION OF COLOURS TO HIGH SCHOOL COMPANY.
At All Saint’s Church, Palmerston North, yesterday several Girl Guide companies paraded for the dedication of the colours of the High School Qompany. There was a largo congregation, and the ceremony was. conducted by the Rev. H. S. Kenney. . The colours, which were presented by Mrs. Caccia-Birch, To Awe Awe street, were received for tho colour party by Miss Warburton, district commissioner, after which they were dedicated and presented at the altar. Mr. Kenney, in the course of his address, spoke of the part which symbolism plays in our lives. “We all make, use of symbols which may be described as visible signs of something invisible,” said the preacher. The Girl, Guide movement has its symbols, also it has its colours, which arc symbolic of all that the Guide movement stands for—high ideals, and its duty to its God, its country, and its kin, And the dedication of the colours should remind us that the whole Guide movement, its work, and its ideals is dedicated to or set apart for that threefold service. Each Guido should feel that she is taking a real and individual part in this service. For each Guide, no matter how unworthy, has something to dedicate. Each Guido can possess three priceless gifts —tho gifts of loyalty, honor, and courage. Each Guide can dedicate those three great gifts to the service of God, King, and country. But tho greatest gift of all is the gift of herself—to dedicate her whole life, her whole self —to that service.
• ‘ Tho influence of a good woman has been in the past, and is to-day, one of tho greatest influences in the world, and tho Girl Guide movement, by striving to build up characters which will exert that influence, will have an incalculable effect upon tho well-being of our nation.”
During the.service appropriate hymns were sung, and the National Anthem brought a most impressive ceremony to a close..
